Professor Lin Chin-jun


Prof. Lin went to the U.S. for further study after graduating from Department of Music at Tunghai University. He received a master’s degree in clarinet playing from Peabody Institute in 1995 and a Ph. D. degree in clarinet playing from the University of Minnesota in 1998. He learned clarinet from Bei Wei-lin, Chen Wei-ling, Loren Kitt, Steven Barta, and John Anderson. Also, he larned bass clarinet from Edward Palanker.

In 1993, he was awarded a scholarship from Peabody Institute for graduate study. In 1995, he received a full scholarship from the Department of Music at University of Minnesota. In 1996, he was chosen as a teaching assistant in the Department of Music at U. of Minnesota, teaching individual clarinet lessons, chamber music, and the orchestra’s clarinet section. He also served as the first clarinet in the orchestra and brass emsemble of U. of Minnesota.

Prof. Lin was elected a Ted Mann Musicians in Minnesota in 1997, performed regularly at Ted Mann Concert Hall and often toured the Minnesota area. In 1997, he was invited to collaborate with Norway’s Bergen Woodwind Quintet to perform at Ted Mann Concert Hall.

After returning to Taiwan in 1998, Lin actively engaged in performing, teaching and promoting clarinet music. He often performed solo or concerto pieces at National Concert Hall and culture centers around the island. In 1999, at the invitation of Singapore Art Society, he played chamber music at SPH Auditorium with Singapore Symphony Orchestra. In August of the same year, he held a clarinet recital and seminar at Singapore University’s fine art center. In 2000, he formed “You Trio” with pianist Jiang Mo-li and cellist Chen Jian-an and toured in Taipei, Kaohsiung and Singapore. In July, 2005, he played solo recital in Japan’s International Clarinet Festival. A month later, he held a solo recital and seminar in China’s Xian Clarinet Festival. In 2006, he became an executive director in Taiwan Band Association.

Lin’s current position is full-time professor at the Department of Music at NTUE and professor of music graduate programs at National Chiao Tung University.
